Medics against Violence is a Scottish charity SC041153 founded and run by healthcare professionals which aims to change attitudes to violence and reduce levels of injury due to all kinds of violence. including 'recreational violence' and domestic abuse. We run five main workstreams.

MAV SCHOOLS: We run the award winning MAV Schools programme which has spoken to over 90000 young people in Scottish schools since 2009. This programme is staffed by volunteer clinicians of all sorts who give up their time to visit schools to share their experiences with the pupils. We talk about the risks and consequences of violence using our experiences as clinicians to illustrate this, why people get involved in violence and how alcohol in particular contributes to violence and we help the young people we speak too explore ways to stay safe. We also have a new school programme called On the Edge that works with young people most at risk of violence.

MAV INTERNS: This is a peer education programme where we train the senior school pupils over 5-6 lessons to present lessons to the junior pupils in the school.

ASC: Our domestic abuse training programme ASC (Ask Support Care) trains all sorts of professionals in health and beyond to recognise and support those experiencing domestic abuse. We have trained a wide range of people all over Scotland from the Borders to Orkney.

NAVIGATOR: Navigator is a support programme based in the EDs of Glasgow Royal Infirmary, The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Crosshouse Hospital, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, University Hospital Wishaw, University Hospital Hairmyres and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley and in two children's EDs in Glasgow and Aberdeen. Navigators work between the hospital and the local communities and aims to support people with complex psychosocial needs away from involvement in violence and the other issues associated with it. We are also currently piloting other Navigator approaches in schools, maternity units and for families.

PATHFINDER: Pathfinder is a community outreach programme that supports people who have been arrested or charged in relation to drug use and who have other associated vulnerabilities.
